I can't seem ot force WMP or Media Center to use Coreavc. It works perfectly in Media Player Classic but I still don't know what's going on with WMP. Using Graphedit shows the coreAVC is the prefered codec for h.264 files etc. Everything seems to be fine (no FFDSHOW installed either).It worked perfectly in XP before. How can I disable/erase the default Win7 H.264 codec in WMP and Media Center, it's driving me nuts.

vid card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700pro (latest drivers).

hi,

download and try these regfiles to register coreAVC for .mkv and .ts in windows media center..

http://www.tobiwahnkenobi.de/FILES/regfiles-coreAVC.rar

it's just a try, but it works perfect in MCE and VMC.. maybe in W7MC too..

you can edit the regfiles to .mp4 - it's all the same procedere.

use this to make .mp4 in MCE/VMC visible:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4]
@="MatroskaVideo"
"PerceivedType"="video"
"Content Type"="video/x-matroska"

and that to use coreAVC with .mp4

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4]
@="CoreMedia.MKV"
"PerceivedType"="video"
"Content Type"="video/x-matroska"

have phun!

It didn't work this time. It's still using Win7's default codec for .mp4 files. :'( :'(

hmm..kay.. but that is not a real problem.. isn't it? ;-)

have you tried the actual version of divX-decoder for mp4-playback - on the other hand xvid works fine for .mp4

Lets state that CoreAVC 'DOES' work on Windows 7 and that the issue is that Haali's splitter needs to be updated to support it (win7). Haali is aware of the issues and will release a new splitter that supports Windows 7 when its ready. In the meantime you can try another splitter to see if it works.... D9 reported that the NERO splitter works.

Thanks BetaBoy for the update.
Good to know that it doesn't come from my setup and that Haali is aware of the problem.
Will try with another splitter if I have some time.

Greetings!

I'm confused by this posting. If Graphedit is working OK with the Halli splitter in win 7, then Media Center will also work.

Actually, we now know that WMP and Media Center in Windows 7 will always prefer their own codecs instead of CoreAVC. There is an exception for .mkv files due to Haali's Media Splitter using a loophole, but MS want this changed.

is it because of this loophole that VOBSub and AC3Filter also are just working on my mkv files?

Why i still need AC3Filter is a bit strange, and i still find this a bug in Windows 7.. Because if i just install Haali and nothing more then all my mkv files play fine and if they have DTS that sound is passed through as is to my receiver. But dolby is somehow altered by windows and will only output stereo. If i then also install AC3Filter and there is say everything AS IS/Pass through then also dolby digital works. That last thing i find very strange why that is needed for dolby..

Besides that i do like that subtitles are working in WMC with VOBSub (with mkv files)

i do see a problem coming up for alternative codecs anyway.. I think that is just a fact of live, who is using nowadays an alternative mpeg2 codec? You have full package player things like PowerDVD and so on. But i dont use those at all anymore. And how more codecs MS is putting by default in windows, and does improve over time just like the mpeg2.. the less others are needed (from an end users point of view)

Got WMP12 and WMC to work with coreavc + ac3filter + vobsub + Haali + mp4

For this simply deleted this MFT key from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MediaFoundation\Transforms
62ce7e72-4c71-4d20-b15d-452831a87d9d (Microsoft H264 Video Decoder MFT)

It`s fast and dirty solution, backup this key, if you plan to try. I`ll continue research. Maybe I can add some new DMO keys from Vista and change HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MediaFoundation\Transforms\Preferred to this.

Tested my solution on fresh installed Windows 7 RC.
Also need to change 2 values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred

{31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} {212690FB-83E5-4526-8FD7-74478B7939CD}
change to
{31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} {09571A4B-F1FE-4C60-9760-DE6D310C7C31}

and

{e06d8026-db46-11cf-b4d1-00805f6cbbea} {212690FB-83E5-4526-8FD7-74478B7939CD}
change to
{e06d8026-db46-11cf-b4d1-00805f6cbbea} {09571A4B-F1FE-4C60-9760-DE6D310C7C31}

After this I disabled "Preferred decoder" option in CoreAVC settings to get VobSub in mkv.
(If option "Preferred decoder" enabled, VobSub is not loading when playing mkv)

No need to change this key. Sorry for many edits ^^`

I`m using Shark007 codec pack and selected Haali splitter for both mkv and mp4.

So you dont have to delete anything at all? Just install shark007 codec pack?

Because I installed shark007 codec pack and wmp still doesnt use Coreavc.

Yes. No files deleted.
Only deleted key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MediaFoundation\Transforms\{62ce7e72-4c71-4d20-b15d-452831a87d9d}
changed key value
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred\{31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
and installed Shark codec pack, CoreAVC and AC3Filter.

P.S. Shark codec pack doesn`t contain preconfiguried h264 decoder (in ffdshow this feature disabled), it needed for Windows7 versions of VobSub and Haali splitter.

Hmm.. I`m using WMC every day and it works perfectly without crashes. Maybe this hack don`t work with live TV, I don`t know because don`t have a tv tuner.
Try to restore deleted reg key and check WMC.

How do you take ownership of those reg enteries though? I can take ownership of files. I haven't found anything useful on the net so far either about how to do this.

thanks. I was trying to give myself ownership and that wasn't working...

hopefully this works :)

WMF uses way too much CPU power.

now, anyone know how to make this work in x64? Assuming have to use ffdshow until we see a 64bit version of coreavc.
