I can get cuda working in a window, then maximize WMC and it works fine. But if WMC is maximized and i start a film, I get coreAVC running in just software mode. I know, because If i start a film in fullscreen then go into windowed mode, I see only the blue icon. If i start the movie in windowed mode i get the green icon and a much quieter pc (less cpu load cause of cuda) anyway to fix this? It's really annoying.

Thanks

Yes, I have the same problem. In fact what you will find is that CUDA does not work when VMC is full screen.
I have raised two support tickets for this issue. The first was closed with no resolution so I have just opened another ticket.
Others have reported the same issue on this board and the support staff are very quiet about this issue - no threads on this have been replied to and support tickets closed.

This is really irritating for me (and I'm sure others) because I bought a brand new 9500GT and paid for the Pro codec only to find that it's a lot of money wasted - who watches content in a VMC window for goodness sake ???

So come on COREAVC please respond to this issue.

I'm using Windows Vista 32 Bit Home Premium on my Notebook. It owns a geforce 8600m GT.
This was only a testinstallation to see how MCE works with other codecs like coreAVC,

My goal is a running MCE on an nvidia-ion box with an intel atom processor with CUDA based hardware decoding.

Maybe the DXVA internal decoder of Windows 7 is a better solution?

I noticed a similar thread about this issue after v.1.9.0 was released and tested it myself by logging CPU usage in the background while playing mkvs with VMC. The bug is real for me too. In full screen mode VMC is using about 15-20% total processor time on a quad core. In windowed mode it drops to less than 1% use and the GPU starts heating up. Completely repeatable going from windowed mode to full screen and back. I'm on Vista x86 SP1. Tested a variety of different h.264 encodes/resolutions and codec option settings and all with the same results. When 1.9.5 came out I figured surely it would be addressed but still did the same thing. So I switched to MPC-HC's internal codec with VMC which at least provides DXVA. I still check back occasionally just to see if anyone has noticed it or has a fix. It's hard to know the bug exists since you can't see the magic "green icon" when VMC is full screen. I guess it's a case of 'out of sight, never mind'.

Interesting to read the response given to someone who actually filed a support ticket about it.

Sorry to be off-topic to the CUDA issue, but I also tried the MPC HC's internal codec in VMC but without success. Could you please explain how you get it working together with VMC?

EDIT: Have found the Stand-Alone-Filter package.

I am seeing the exact same thing, if i start a clip in windowed mode the Coreavc icon goes green fine and i can play my 1080 stream with no judder. I can also then fullscreen the window and Cuda will remain in effect. However if start a 1080 clip whilst in fullscreen it judders like hell, and if i window MC and check the tray icon it is blue and cuda is not being used.

An official response to this would be appreciated. Especially if they are closing peoples bugs with no comment!!

Cheers

Gareth

I just purchased CoreAVC Pro and I have the exact same problem.

We need a fix for this problem ASAP.

Thanks,

FYI, i have just tested this on my Win7 testing rig and it also exhibits the same behavior. Fairly major bug to "not be aware of" when there is a long thread about it on your forums. It's not like there's hundreds of forums to browse either, just one related to the codec, you would think someone would take a look at it once in a while!!

Same problem with Win7 + MCE... If I run the same video on Windows Media Player in a restored state and then maxximise that Windows CUDA is active, if I run in MCE directly this then fails to use CUDA...

Are there any updates on this issue, when it will be resolved?

Cheers
Paul

Windows 7 build 7200 - exact same issue, very annoying as I bought specific card to use CUDA, as DXVA sucks

any comment from CoreCodec staff ? Is this being addressed ?

would be good for some update from someone at core on this. It pretty much renders the cuda support useless for me as i always start vids in fullscreen from mediaportal.
I can't even consider buying the codec until this is sorted.

I've also had my ups (few) and downs (lots) with DXVA, but until this issue is fixed i don't see any alternative unless anyone can suggest one?

Yes we know about. Yes a fix is being worked on. No it's not a bug in CoreAVC, it's an incompatability with MCE - using a different media player is strongly advised, especially with the breaking changes MS has caused with Win7. Is CoreAVC "USELESS" without it like some people are insisting? No it works perfectly fine in software mode, or windowed mode, or with any other player.
Separate issue: it has been stated several times that CoreAVC does not support windows 7. Please do not submit any tickets relating to it.
Thread closed since I don't see what else is left to discuss.
